Turbo charged

MacBook ProI am proud to say I am no longer a Windows LG notebook user, I’ve converted to the dark side and am now turbo charged with a Leopard Macbook Pro.

I’ve spent the past week painstakingly moving all my documents, files and folders, iTunes music, design applications and instant messenger tools across to my new love affair. All I need to do now is move my archived mail folders. Eeeek ๐Ÿ™

A friend kindly offered to purchase my MacBook Pro in Singapore at a very good price. With 2GB of memory, an Intel Core Duo processor and a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce graphics card it’s like driving a Ferrari after driving a VW Caravelle for 2 years.

Up until recently I wasn’t convinced that a Mac was that much better for desktop publishing work, I’ve also thought of it as a bit of a status symbol. I was wrong. Apart from the power under the bonnet that handles the Adobe design suite much better, Mac OS X Leopard boasts some great intuitive features that are already saving me lots of time and helping me get far better organised.

What I am most chuffed with is in fact the Mac Book Pro screen, which boasts a “15.4-inch (diagonal) TFT LED backlit display with support for millions of color“. I am ashamed to think of what my eye’s have been put through on my LG screen, as it is known to be rather dark.

I am a 100% convinced my new Mac Book Pro will help me produce better designs in more vibrant colours.

P.S. I have found one dashboard widget, that is an absolute must have. I’m not going to say what it is, just point you to it. Trust me on this one though, this widget will come in handy when on a Skype voice chat to a your clients.

Nice one mate! Leopard is rocking =) I haven’t got my Mac Book Pro yet, but it’s definitely on my short list!

  2. Awesome man. I’m so glad I finally came across this site. No idea why it’s taken so long but thanks to Adii for the link ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Congrats. Welcome to the club. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. zoomzoomzoom! you will looooove your new MBP and it will love you back. how’s leopard working for you? hasn’t been so dreamy for me. apps randomly quitting, extremely long booting up time… etc.

  5. Thanks for the comments.

@Peter: You gotta get one mate, worth every cent/penny.

@Ivolution-SEO: Always good to see someone new on my site. Please stop by again ๐Ÿ™‚

@Hash: Lucky bum not all of us get free MacBook Pros from Google! Enjoy it!

@Mostly Lisa: Leopard is running beautifully, not that i have much experience with Tiger. Loads super fast and no more hanging like my Windows notebook used to, although does occasionally in Photoshop…

  6. eeek hey….come back to SA and become a man again Markie

  7. Hey … I wouldnt say converted TO the dark more like FROM the dark side … MS are the evil ones don’t you know .. hee hee. Welcome.

One thing I will say (as you mentioned more vibrant colours) is, when working in PS and exporting images for web, make sure you proof them to Macintosh RGB first (View > Proof setup), otherwise they will look horribly washed out …

    Enjoy

  8. Hey Dave, your right, the dark side is becoming more and more obviously the MS side as I play around with my Mac.

Thanks for the info re color proofing, I was actually reading about that yesterday. Definitely something I will have to research more.

Look forward to seeing your blog being updated sometime soon ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ooo colour profiling =) How good is the factory calibration of your display? I mean, being Mac it should be good, but I think if you are being picky about colour you should still grab yourself a colorimeter of some kind. I bought a Spyder and it totally transformed my lcd colour performance, but then that was a consumer grade lcd with little or no factory calibration.

  11. This is MUST HAVE GADGET 2007, but after read on some mac rumors website I must wait to get this machine until january 2008.

On some rumor website there are will be new series of MacBook Pro ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Welcome to the light side my friend ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. You guys are all wrong!

The light side would be converting to Ubuntu 7.10 gutsy gibbon or other FREE distro. Let me say that again FREE. Yes the force is strong.

But then again the Macbook just looks so sweet! Like a finely crafted lightsaber of modern tech!

  14. Mark! Better late than never – you realise you are now going to become one of ‘those people’ who describe their computer with almost religious fervour… or as if they were speaking about their own child. Yes, the mac instills a deep and somewhat irrational love for the machine in its user… and that’s just how it should be! Welcome, welcome *clap* *clap* *clap*

  15. Welcome to real world… May the force be with you!
