Newcastle vs Aston Villa at St. James Park

On Wednesday my brother and I took a sleezy jet up to Newcastle to join the toon army, otherwise known as the Geordies, at St. James Park. Newcastle were playing Aston Villa. This was only my second premier league footy game I had been to, and the first one on “home” soil. St James Park is a massive stadium, filled with a passionate crowd of Geordies.

Newcastle made a fantastic start to the game with the first goal in only the 7th minute, followed by another one 120 seconds later. What a start to the game! Newcastle 2 – Aston Villa 0. Nothing compares to the sight of 50,000 Geordies celebrating a goal with their black and white scarves lifted high above their shoulders. It’s emotional I tell you!

Aston Villa fought back and looked rather dominant for a good chunk of the game with the Villa debutant Ashley Young scoring a goal. Newcastle sealed the deal in the dying minutes though, with a goal from Sibierski.

This game pushed Newcastle into 9th position on the table, one above Tottenham Hotspurs. Howay the lads!

  1. Wow – that camera work was pretty astounding. I think i need to throw up and then sit quietly whilst my head stops spinning! 😉

  2. Hey GW, the movement of the camera in the dying seconds of this shoot was to capture the raw energy of the crowd. It was well thought out and in the original storyboard.
