Best Weekend Ever

Not this last one, but it shall be happening soon. Glastonbury 2007 is fast approaching and somehow I managed to get a ticket. An expensive ticket, but probably the best value ticket I shall ever purchase. What is Glastonbury? Glastonbury is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. It is usually filled with a lot of weirdos, a lot of mud, loads of music and not many toilets.

Glastonbury Camp SiteThere is only one common characteristic of a Glastonbury-goer – they understand that Glastonbury offers more opportunity than any other happening to have the best weekend of the year or even of a life-time, and they are determined to have it!

Brief History of Glastonbury

“19 September 1970 – The first Festival was held on the day after Jimi Hendrix died, over a two day period and before long “word had got around”. It was the Blues festival at the Bath & West Showground that had inspired Michael Eavis to begin a festival of his own although on a smaller scale.

Acts included: Marc Bolan, Keith Christmas, Stackridge, Al Stewart. Attendance: 1,500. Price: £1 including free milk from the farm.”

Fast forward 37 years and Glastonbury 2007 is set for an attendance of 175,000 people, the tickets cost £150 and there is no free milk, BUT what you do get is an AMAZING, INCREDIBLE line up of performances.

Below is a list of bands I shall be watching. (Please note this may make you very jealous, bordering on hateful, I do apologize):

  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Kasabian
  • The Fratellis
  • Bloc Party
  • The Killers
  • The Kooks
  • Paulo Nutini
  • Lily Allen
  • Kaiser Chiefs
  • Manic Street Preachers
  • James Morrison
  • Maximo Park
  • Babyshambles
  • The Chemical Brothers
  • Mika
  • Jamie T
  • Just Jack
  • Damian Marley
  • Nizlopi
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Damien Rice
  • Fatboy Slim
  • Carl Cox

That’s not nearly the whole list of the performing bands, you can find that here, it’s just the few I shall be making a special effort to watch.

Life is cruel.

  1. you bastard.

(except i’d never go, even if you bought me a ticket. people:toilet ratio multiplied by tons of mud/ square metre = not a happy XGW. except i *would like to hurl my knickers at some of those men on the list. oh the toss-up)

  2. Denial is the first phase of mourning GW. I know you’d be the first one in the goth pit, covered in sticky beer and surrounded by sweaty bodies!

  3. Dear Mark,

I’m really trying not to hate you as much as I do at the moment. But it’s very difficult knowing that you’re going to see most of the bands that I myself would love to see. For this reason I will have to avoid your blog until regular postings continues. 😛

  6. […] Best weekend ever. It certainly was. By a long shot. Glastonbury 2007 is hard to sum up in words. It is too much of an emotionally charged experience. Instead of attempting to describe it, as I am sure I will not do it justice, I have made a couple lists and linked to lots of videos. […]
