Surfer’s Corner, from above

Same frame, a few months apart. Surfer’s Corner from straight above: the beach huts in their colours, the pavilion and the car park, and then the same patch of sand turned into a building site.

The City is replacing the old seawall and setting the promenade back about two metres, so rising seas and winter storms don’t keep eating into the beach. The huts are coming out to make room. Work started in February 2025 and is due to finish by the end of 2026.

Strange watching a place you know this well change shape. I’ll miss the old colours, but a beach that’s still here in fifty years feels like a fair trade.
