2020 is a meteor, from a future galaxy, that hit earth with an exponential viral force. A meteor filled with COVID-19 shaped particles – levelling all of us.
The year that has triggered the most significant global crisis of our lifetime. A pandemic year. A virus that has contaminated our economic markets, decimated businesses, destroyed livelihoods and even left some facing starvation. It has re-programmed our social fabric and re-engineered how we work.
It’s been the remote working experiment no one asked for.
In South Africa, amidst a 21 day lockdown, and in the privileged leafy Capetonian suburbs, it has silenced the roads and further isolated neighborhoods. Making boundary walls feel even higher.
It’s eerily, frighteningly weird, but it’s existential significance is poetically beautiful.
That’s enough thought leadership word spew though. There’s been plenty of that contaminating everyone’s mental health.
Home life with two young boys has been a challenge, but also a repeated slap in the face – I’m full of gratitude. We are a healthy, wealthy family living in a house that allows us to co-exist comfortably. With enough space for a moment of true solitude, a garden to expel young energy, a swimming pool (that is growing colder by the day as winter approaches), and a driveway to ride bikes down.
What happens next?
