Whilst trying to discover why my Google Page Rank keeps fluctuating between 3 and 5, I stumbled on a few interesting articles. It’s probably worth mentioning these interesting articles in separate posts, but I’m going to kill two birds with one stone, as they are both Google related.
Firstly, the answer to my fluctuating Page Rank was given to me by this link.
The reason is Google has various data centers around the world, and although usually all these data centers output the same results, if queried during an update some will display your future page rank, and others will display your current page rank.
4 of the 17 data centers are displaying my old page rank of 3 (or least were at the time of this post), whilst the other data centers have all updated my blog information and show a page rank of 5. Hence, most the time my toolbar displays 5, but infrequently, it shows 3.
For those of you that aren’t sure what Page Rank is, yet alone what your blog’s page rank is, have a read what Google have to say about it. Then check your future page rank using something like this.
Gone are the days when people thought Page Rank was as useless as Michael J. Fox trying to hide from a T. Rex. Nowadays the big blogs, with high page ranks, are using their power to Google Bomb.
This brings me on to the second article I read.
There is a site called martinlutherkingdotorg (please note I am specifically not linking to it here) that is a rather evil site, written by a bunch of evil skinheads who don’t like Martin Luther. Seeing they have used a good url name, they feature number 3 on the results for “Martin Luther King”, thus they are getting a lot of hits.
They don’t deserve these hits… so some people are now Google bombing them. Read an explanation of this whole saga here.
Now I am going to use my rather insignificant, page rank 5 site, to help the cause. It’s Google Bomb time!
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King
By powerful sites doing this they are increasing the backlinks to these sites, instead of the Skinheads, in turn increasing their page ranks, and pushing the evil skinheads website off the first page of results for “Martin Luther King”.
Pretty interesting hey?
